Audience: Parliamentary staffers for Lords and MPs

Over four video sessions, you will learn the critical elements of parliamentary procedure,

best practice when dealing with the media, and how to excel at all the key elements of supporting an MP. 

 

Our cross-party expert trainers include former and current parliamentary assistants, advisors and journalists, who have decades of experience in Westminster. With our online learning package, you can learn the core skills and knowledge you need, including:

 

  • Drafting exemplary press releases, briefings and parliamentary questions

  • How NOT to deal with journalists

  • Diary management hacks, to keep you and your boss calm in the chaos

  • The resources you never knew you had, including how to get expert economists and statisticians on your team, free of charge

  • Navigating the parliamentary procedure you need to know about, from Early Day Motions to Adjournment Debates

 

You will receive:

  • A bank of helpful resources you can print out for your office

  • Study tools to guide you through your learning, and assess your strengths and points for development

  • Exercises for you to practise your skills, and send to our expert trainers for feedback

  • A follow up call with an expert trainer, should you wish to ask further questions

The Scheme of MPs’ Business Costs and Expenses recognises courses that focus on a Member's parliamentary work as a 'claimable cost', which can be reclaimed from the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority (IPSA).

 

This course covers cross-party best practice and focuses on parliamentary work. No advice is offered on political campaigning, and there is no political debate.
